Dental, Vision
& Original Medicare

On Original Medicare, the benefits for dental and vision are limited and leave seniors responsible for most, if not all of the out-of-pocket costs associated with both routine and comprehensive care.  It is important to be aware of what Original Medicare will cover to allow you to make informed decisions regarding the benefits that are right for your situation and your budget.

While Original Medicare offers a level of coverage that is acceptable for many seniors, this is not always the case.  There are steps that can be taken to ensure that Original Medicare beneficiaries have sufficient ancillary coverage to protect them from unexpected out-of-pocket expenses.  We offer access to many stand-alone dental and vision plans that can fit any need and budget.

What do they cover?

DENTAL: Original Medicare offers very limited coverage for dental procedures.  Original Medicare (Part A) only offers limited coverage for dental services that require you to be hospitalized.  This leaves seniors responsible for out-of-pocket costs up to 100% for all preventative and most comprehensive services.

Through considering coverage from a stand-alone dental plan, or a Medicare Advantage Plan (Part C) that includes dental benefits, there are many options available to you that will offer coverage for many of the following services:

  • Extractions
  • Root canals
  • Cavity treatment
  • Fillings
  • Crowns
  • Bridges
  • Dentures
  • Cleanings
  • Dental Exams
  • X-rays

VISION: Similar to Original Medicare and Dental, Part A will cover services requiring hospitalization only. Through your Part B you can receive limited coverage on screening services and minor surgeries, but not for preventative and routine eye exams.  Original Medicare also offers no coverage for eyeglasses or contact lenses.

Through considering coverage from a stand-alone vision plan, or a Medicare Advantage Plan (Part C) that includes vision benefits, there are many options available to you that will offer routine coverage and even help cover the costs associated with purchasing corrective eye ware.
